Tufts University Chorale entertain the crowd at Fota House

Last Thursday night 10th January in the scenic and atmospheric grounds of Fota House, Arboretum and Gardens lovers of good music in East Cork were in for a treat with a night of chorale and classical music at the scenic grounds.

Beginning at 8pm, and with a complementary glass of wine at the interval, visitors to the concert were treated to a performance from Tufts University Chorale who had come all the way from America. The crowd who gathered to see the show were entertained by the group from Boston who performed several movements from the Bluegrass Mass by Carol Barnette.

Along with the performances of the Tufts University Chorale, there was also a show from the local Carrigaline Choral Group who were there to support the Boston based visitors, with a performance of “Voci Nuove” directed by Colm O’Regan and Dan Twomey, the Tenor Soloist last seen on RTE’s “The Voice.” With top class music and voices being heard and in beautiful timely settings of Fota House, the event was a welcome night out for people to the area.

Sprinting and GAA stars ring in 2013 with a New Year’s Wedding

It was a match made in sporting heaven as this New Years Eve saw Irelands top sprinter Ailis McSweeney wed her boyfriend of eight years, Dublins football captain Bryan Cullen at a festive ceremony in the sprint stars native village of Carrigtwohill in countyCork.

The bride who wore a stunning lace-over-satin wedding dress and bridal bouquet of red “grand prix” roses kept her groom waiting at the altar for 20 minutes before arriving with her proud father Eamon. For his part Bryan waiting inside flanked by several members of the 2011 All-Ireland winning Dublin team in St Mary’s Church in Carrigtwohill was nonplussed as he wore a black suit with a white shirt and white tie.

Sporting stars of Irelands Olympic as well as GAA fields and further afield were in attendance to see two stars of both spheres marry in style in the little village in East Cork. Among the guests were GAA players Bernard and Alan Brogan, goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton, Barry Cahill, Paul Griffin and Denis Bastick, former Dublin player, Tomas Quinn, who read a prayer of the faithful, rugby player Conal Keane who was a groomsman and former Dubs manager Pat Gilroy. Sumatran tigers, lions and rhino coming to Fota as part of €6m expansion

You may remember that we informed you of a €6m expansion for Fota a few weeks ago. Finally we have received more information on the project and can reveal that Sumatran tigers, lions and rhino will be making their way to Fota Wildlife Park very soon.

The park which already includes lemurs, giraffes and meerkats, will make their addition to the already prominent Asian Sanctuary in 2013 once planning permission has been confirmed. It is hoped that the Sumatran tigers will be the first two stars of the new venture to arrive by September. The breeding pair of cats will arrive from zoos in France and Germany.
