Irish Open to come back to Fota?

Fota Island Resort, Cork’s premier 5 Star Hotel and Golf Course has emerged as a strong contender to host the June 2014 Irish Open Golf Tournament.

The 5-Star resort previously hosted the Irish Open in 2001, when it was won by Colin Montgomerie, and 2002, when Dane Soren Hansen was crowned champion. The event was sponsored by Local brand Murphy’s Irish Stout on both occasions.

The 2014 Irish Open will be played from June 19-22 directly after the US Open. Last year’s venue, Carton House in County Kildare, is also said to be in the running to stage a repeat of the 2013 tournament which was won by Paul Casey.
